During our 2017 Annual Benefit performance we had a first on Near West Theatre’s stage! Our Benefit cast performed an original rap song by Bob Navis Jr. We’d like to share the words from this original rap with you today along with a couple of shots from the performance.
Video of this performance is coming! And so is a full update of our 2017 Annual Benefit: RISE!

NOT ALONE by Bob Navis Jr
Amanda
When you look around
At our Nation At the situation
At the Middle Class, Upper Class, Lower Class
Does it get you down?
Make you frown?
When our leaders act like clowns?
Dan
When they lie?
Do you find yourself confused, used
When you lose
When you hope and hope
And it all comes crashing down
(And it crashes, and it smashes all the life from your soul)
And you're dazed, walking in a haze
Jocelyn
Spinning inside out, and your face is in a pout
And you want to shout
"Stop the world I'm getting off!"
Getting out
Getting free of the debris
Cyle
Can't you see you're not alone
With your iPhone, typing out your tweets, your deletes
When defeat has got you down, look around
All
(Sung Refrain)
NO YOU’RE NOT ALONE
OPEN UP YOUR EYES, TO SURPRISE, TO THE TRUTH BEHIND THE LIES
GRAB A STRANGER’S HAND, TAKE A STAND
NOW YOU’RE NOT ALONE
Cyle, Amanda, Dan, Jocelyn
It's so easy to give up, to give in
Throw a fit, quit, just decide to sit
In a pile of shit
Drowning in the bad news, boo-hoos
Singing the blues,
When we fight
When we polarize, shut our eyes
When we set up camps
Keeping strangers out, with our shouts
With our fists and our guns and you feel you gotta run
Gotta go, gotta leave, gotta get some reprieve Look around
All
(Sung Refrain)
NO YOU’RE NOT ALONE
OPEN UP YOUR EYES, TO SURPRISE, TO THE TRUTH BEHIND THE LIES
GRAB A STRANGER’S HAND, TAKE A STAND
NOW YOU’RE NOT ALONE
Cyle, Dan, Amanda, Jocelyn
We can get this right
We're America We know how to fight
For our rights to be safe to be free
To be all that we can be
To be here in America
Land of many dreams
But it seems there are those want America
To go back regress
To fuck up all the progress that we've made
To be heard to be black to be gay have a say
To determine our own way as Republicans Democrats
Free thinkers who believe in one God, many Gods, no God
God bless Americans, Native Americans, immigrants, patriots, dissidents, Jews, Christians, Buddhists, Muslims, Aetheists
ALL OF US AMERICANS
ALL OF US AMERICANS
ALL OF US AMERICANS
All
(Sung Refrain)
NO YOU’RE NOT ALONE
OPEN UP YOUR EYES, TO SURPRISE, TO THE TRUTH BEHIND THE LIES
GRAB A STRANGER’S HAND, TAKE A STAND
NOW YOU’RE NOT ALONE
