June 11 from 6:00pm - 10:00pm
The LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland and the Near West Theatre are continuing the great tradition of hosting queer prom in 2022! For the past two years, Covid-19 has shown us how important togetherness truly is, and how much of a difference it makes to have a strong sense of community and support. So it is with much honor that, for the first time since 2019, we present to you the theme of this year’s prom—“But I’m A Queer”: The Prom, which pays tribute to the 1999 film, “But I’m a Cheerleader”. This film is near and dear to us because it showcases the internal battle many of us undergo when it comes to choosing assimilation or authenticity, and how even in the worst circumstances, we have managed to find community, love, and happiness. As our bodies and civil rights continue to be attacked politically and in the media, we invite you to choose joy with us—to choose authenticity. “But I’m a Cheerleader” may be our favorite choice, but what’s yours? Come dressed up as, or in the spirit of, your favorite queer Hollywood icon for our red carpet affair! We can guarantee you will be treated like the V.I.P you really are!
For those of you needing assistance with hair and makeup, we will have a team of assistants at the LGBT Community Center, 6705 Detroit Avenue (across the street from Near West), from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm. If you’re in need of assistance with your attire, visit us on Tuesday, June 7, or Wednesday, June 8th, from 10 am to 12 pm or 6 pm to 8 pm to sign out an outfit to complete your iconic look!
Register today at https://bit.ly/3wFFfir. We hope to see you there!
